A company that owns seven hospitals is setting up a new location for back-office employees, and thus moving jobs from Eugene to Vancouver.
PeaceHealth, a non-profit Catholic health system that owns seven hospitals including its flagship in Springfield, Ore., is expected to set up a new office that may move jobs from Eugene to Vancouver.
The company, which employs 7,000 in Oregon, hopes to improve efficiency by setting up all its back-office employees and functions in one location.
PeaceHealth is in the midst of merging with Southwest Washington Health System, a smaller nonprofit organization that operates Vancouver’s largest hospital. The merger may be completed this fall or later.
Mel Pyne, CEO of PeaceHealth’s Oregon Region, said in an interview that establishing a shared services center is part of a broader, systemwide effort to become more efficient and shave costs so that PeaceHealth can dedicate more resources to clinical care. The shared services center could include such functions as accounting and information technology.
