Lisa Sedlar has been named the new CEO of Portland-based grocery chain New Seasons.

Sedlar is a formally trained chef, and started a series of grocery store jobs as a clerk. She takes over one of the state’s most successful food businesses.

Sedlar takes the place of Brian Rohter, the former chief executive and one of three company founders. Rohter also plans to retire from his position as the company’s board chairman in January. The company reported it will find a replacement on the board next year.

“Brian has provided incredible support and leadership to ensure that this transition would be seamless for our community and staff,” Sedlar said in a company release. “He and our founders helped create a sustainable company that is a model for other businesses.”

Sedlar joined New Seasons in 2005 as president and has since led daily operations. She’s worked closely with Rohter through the years, and the company made an announcement last year that paved the way for her to eventually take the helm. Most recently, she helped Rohter create an option plan that provides extra pay-outs when longtime employees leave the company.
