The Washington County outdoor gear company says its new system called “TurboDown,” or Performance Enhanced Down, is a “down jacket on steroids”. Essentially the company has combined two of its existing technologies – synthetic Omni-Heat thermal insulation and Omni-Heat Reflective linings – with down.
Down prices have escalated rapidly along with products insulated with the material, Columbia says in a news release. A pound of white goose down that cost about $12 in 2009 sold for around $39 in 2013, an increase of 325 percent.
