Columbia Sportswear is suing Hong Kong-based Fibretronic Limited for supplying faulty components for electrically-heated jackets.
The components in the wristcuffs of some of the jackets created an electrical short that melted fabric, according to the lawsuit filed Monday in federal district court in Portland.
Columbia introduced its Omni-Heat Electric technology in apparel in 2011. The battery-powered, push-button heat in apparel was introduced after similar technology was offered in Columbia boots and gloves. A limited number of Omni-Heat Electric products could be found Tuesday on Columbia’s website.
