ACM Research, a California-based supplier of semiconductor cleaning equipment will open a new 11,000-square-foot multi-use facility in Hillsboro Tuesday, per a press release issued last week.

ACM Research currently employs 1,209 people, with the bulk of its operations in China.  According to a spokesperson for the company, ACM Research currently employs 50 people in the U.S. The company’s other U.S. site is in Fremont, Calif.

In 2022, ACM Research reported that $378 million of its $388 million total sales were to customers in China. In the first half of 2023, $207 million of its $219 revenue came from China.

But the company’s Hillsboro expansion signals that that may be changing. According to the press release, the facility is “strategically located near key customers” and will serve as the new sales and service hub for the company. The company also anticipates doubling the number of U.S. employees as it grows its North American footprint.

“Known as the ‘Silicon Forest,’ the Pacific Northwest, and Hillsboro in particular, continues to be a growing semiconductor manufacturing hub, spurring innovation and creating jobs. This is another step in the chip industry’s progress toward becoming a trillion-dollar industry,” Jim Straus, ACM Research’s vice president of sales for the U.S. and Europe, stated in the press release.

ACM develops, manufactures and sells semiconductor process equipment for single-wafer or batch wet cleaning, electroplating, stress-free polishing and thermal processes for semiconductor manufacturing and  wafer-level packaging.  The Hillsboro site will include offices, warehouse space and a dedicated cleanroom and demonstration lab where customers will have “the hands-on opportunity to evaluate and test new tools,” according to the release.
