Portland craft distillers grow up, evolve

0810_Distilleries05A tanned, barefoot Rod “Harry” Harris splashed some amber whiskey into glasses from aboard the RoLin, his 70-foot yacht moored in Portland’s RiverPlace marina. Harris helped make the spirit himself at House Spirits, a small-batch distillery in Portland, as part of the Whiskey Your Way program, which allows participants to blend and age their own 15-gallon barrel of whiskey for $4,900.

The 2010 Top 150 Private Companies in Oregon

0710_150List02Given the beating that sales suffered at most U.S. companies during 2009, it’s no surprise our annual ranking of the state’s top private companies showed strains. Revenue fell an average of 5% but many companies reported dips exceeding 30%. This was a year when companies with 20% revenue declines could still find themselves rise in the rankings.

2010 100 Best Green Companies Methodology

We selected the 2010 100 Best Green Companies based on Sustainable Practices sections in both the employee and employer surveys completed last year by over 26,000 employees from 505 for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations. Participation in the 100 Best survey is voluntary and free of charge. Companies needed at least 15 full- or part-time Oregon employees at the time of the survey; nonprofits needed at least 10.
