On June 7, Precision workers voted 1,258 to 932 not to unionize in Oregon’s biggest such private-sector election in more than 30 years. More than 2,300 employees of Oregon’s only Fortune 500 company besides Nike were eligible to vote. The campaign by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers apparently disrupted operations in the factories, where managers held meetings to persuade workers to vote against unionization.
“Aerospace sales were flat from the prior year as commercial aircraft production rates continue to drive steady demand for airframe and engine components,” the company said in a quarterly filing. “However, growth was deferred due to the impact of union-organizing activity at our Portland locations, which negatively impacted aerospace sales by approximately $12 million.”
