Portland won’t use a bribe-tainted contract to buy $1.3 million worth of parking meters.

That means city officials will have to wait beyond January to install hundreds of high-tech meters in Northwest Portland.

“In the long term, we’re better off sending a message that we take bribery seriously,” Novick said. “We shouldn’t go on purchasing meters under a contract that’s under this cloud.”
