Gov. Kitzhaber intends to broker a “grand bargain” to cut public-pension costs and add education aid.

Despite the failure to reach an agreement in the closing days of the 2013 session, the Democratic chief executive has said he will continue to pursue one and might even call lawmakers back into special session if there is one.

His schedule of meetings, which he bills as “listening sessions,” has not been announced. But his first meeting with business, education and other civic leaders was Friday in Hillsboro, and aides said a Salem session is planned for this week.
