Gov. Kitzhaber’s ‘grand bargain’ was hit by union members and environmentalists in its first public hearing.

During the first of two public hearings on the package, lawmakers heard from farmers who hate it, farmers who love it and union members wearing buttons calling what’s known as the “grand bargain” a “grand theft.”

The partisan bickering in Washington, D.C. could lead to a shutdown of the federal government, Kitzhaber noted, suggesting that Oregonians are better than that. “We can come together and do the right thing for Oregon because we are Oregonians.”
