Oregon still has four unemployed people for every job opening, but the number of job vacancies is more than double those of 2009, according to a study by the state Employment Department.

Oregon still has four unemployed people for every job opening, but the number of job vacancies is more than double those of 2009, according to a study by the state Employment Department.

There were 32,500 vacancies in the private sector, according to the study, which was the first spring survey of Oregon job vacancies since 2009.

The number of available jobs was almost double the job vacancies — 18,200 — reported in the previous spring survey, taken during the depths of the recession, the Employment Department said. But vacancies also were up compared with the winter 2013 estimate of 22,900 vacancies.
