House and Senate Republicans released a proposal to cut PERS even more and save $1.3B.

Four Republican legislators told reporters they meant their multi-piece package to be a starting point for a middle ground deal on how to further cut the cost of the Public Employees Retirement System.

PERS has been under fire during the entire legislative session. Majority Democrats introduced, and passed, a package that saved $460 million and deferred about $400 million to 2015-17.

Republicans insisted that wasn’t enough and refused to pass any proposed tax increases until Democrats agreed to do more on PERS, but the impasse held for several weeks.
