Brattain International Trucks is building a new $6 million sales and service center in west Eugene, nearly doubling its space in the Eugene-Springfield area.

Family-owned Brattain International, which has its headquarters in Portland, sells new and used trucks and parts and provides repair services. In 2004, Brattain expanded its statewide business and bought the Springfield-based Stalick International truck sales and service business — and leased that company’s existing Gateway location from owners David and Henry Stalick. The site’s proximity to Interstate 5 seemed like it would be good for business, with trucks passing through town, possibly in need of parts or services.

But Mechler and CEO Creed Brattain soon realized that most of the business’s customers — other companies with goods to ship around the metro area — were in west Eugene. They hope customers who are closer to Gateway will be willing to visit them at their new west Eugene building, Brattain said.
