Eugene’s mayor, City Council and city manager have the option to rent space in the Lane County Public Service Building for five years, but they want to replace City Hall more quickly.

The council recently got a report on the possibility of tearing down City Hall and replacing it with a much smaller structure on its present site, or renovating parts of the building, such as the Council Chamber, while retaining the structure’s concrete frame for future use.

But north-central Councilor Mike Clark hasn’t given up on an idea that he’s championed for the past few years: Use the Eugene Water & Electric Board administration building next to the Willamette River for the next City Hall.
