Facebook is donating its state energy efficiency tax break of $182,000 to two Crook County organizations.

The money includes $100,000 to support science and technology education at Crook County High School, and $82,000 to support an economic study on ways to increase county revenue through tourism.

Facebook said the sum of the donation is the equivalent of the Business Energy Tax Credit that the company received for the energy-efficient design of its Prineville data center. In other cases, these energy tax credits have been controversial for not producing the economic and environmental benefits originally promised.
