Facebook filed an application with the City of Prineville to begin construction on a 160,000 foot expansion to the data center they are currently building.

Facebook chose Prineville as the site for their new data center just eight months ago.

“Once the permit filings and plans are approved, the positive economic impact on Crook County, based on the work that we have been doing, will now continue through to the end of 2011,” said [Director Ken] Patchett.

With Facebook’s footprint growing tremendously in the past 15 months, Crook County is the recipient of the first company-owned data center to be constructed by this social network giant. The director of the new data center for the company was very clear that it was no accident that Prineville was selected for this construction. The 147,000 square-foot Facebook data center is a massive, but environmental-conscious structure, just off Tom McCall Road, east of Prineville.
