Greenpeace decided to call a truce with Facebook concerning clean energy for the company’s data centers.

The activist organization attacked Facebook last year when the company announced plans for its first data center because Facebook chose to build in Prineville, which is served by PacifiCorp, which gets most of its energy from coal.

Facebook said it chose Prineville because its mild, dry climate enabled a more energy-efficient design that would reduce the facility’s environmental impact by reducing its electricity consumption.

Greenpeace said this morning that it will work with Facebook to encourage energy companies “to move away from coal and instead invest in renewable energy.”
