The fair and exposition center functioned as an independent agency until 2006. The Department of Parks and Recreation, which receives lottery proceeds, took over because lawmakers wanted to wean the fair from tax dollars.
But some of the fair’s participants have been unhappy with the management of the annual event since then. Complaints have ranged from the staff isn’t responsive or friendly enough to frustrations about moved-up entry deadlines and judging.
