The federal government granted conditional approval to six states for health insurance exchange plans, including Oregon.

The approval, by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, says that the six states are on track to set up their exchange, which will include a website allowing comparison of insurance plans and premiums. The other states are Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts and Washington.

State officials set up Cover Oregon, a public corporation, to operate the exchange. The site is scheduled to be up and running by next October. Already a calculator letting people see if they will qualify for assistance is up on the Cover Oregon site.
