Seasonal sales in the Portland-area real estate market began cooling in July, but prices continued to climb.

Sales activity remains far stronger than a year ago, according to numbers released Wednesday by the Regional Multiple Listing Service. In the Portland area, 1,973 homes were sold in July, a 12.1 percent decline compared with June but still 15.4 percent more than the same month a year earlier.

Sellers also accepted offers on 2,372 homes in July in deals that will close in coming months. That’s a 23 percent increase over a year ago.
