Oregon’s unemployment rate rose to 8.7% in July, even as the economy added a seasonally adjusted 1,800 jobs.

Oregon’s unemployment rate rose to 8.7% in July, even as the economy added a seasonally adjusted 1,800 jobs.

Economists there say the number of unemployed workers can grow as people enter the labor force for a variety of reasons, including moving to Oregon, graduating from school or entering the job market for the first time.

In all, 177,801 people were unemployed last month, an uptick of 6,668 from June. But it’s a drop of 11,350 from July 2011.
