Construction on the new Oregon State Hospital annex in Junction City is expected to provide hundreds of jobs.

Like many other rural areas in the state, Junction City has suffered as a result of the economic downturn. Big projects like the annex, which could generate more foot traffic for local businesses, are welcome sights, according to [city administrator Kevin] Watson.

“Overall, there is a big interest of excitement (from local residents),” he said. “This is probably one of the biggest projects we’ve seen.”
