The store has been at the mall since it opened in 1980.
It’s not likely that any one retailer would take over the 65,000-square-foot space, and Roseburg’s economy isn’t expected to attract retailers such as Old Navy or Target, said Melony Hakola, a commercial broker who recruits businesses for the mall.
Neil Hummel, the owner of a real estate company in Roseburg, said the closure reflects tough economic times. He said the biggest obstacle for many malls built in the 1980s is that they may appear outdated, and the Sears closure gives the mall a chance to modernize.
