Early numbers show a 2.6% increase in Oregon State Fair visitors compared to last year.

“In the past, the counting system included everyone going through the gate, including vendors,” said Chris Havel, a spokesman for the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, which oversees the event. “The new system can count only people who have paid.”

Figures show that 235,577 “ticketed visitors” attended the 11 days of events this year, up from 229,542 in 2010.
