adidas wants to be a force in the basketball category. This week the brand expanded its exposure during NBA games.

The Germany-based company released Portland Trail Blazer Damian Lillard’s second signature shoe Monday.

The shoe, a news release says, “is designed to reflect Damian’s competitive nature, relentless work ethic and toughness.”

Lillard, the Trail Blazers’ All Star point guard, says in the release:  “Signature details – I wanted it to have more hints of my background. I still wanted it to be a stylish shoe, to be worn off the court again. Being in Portland makes it easy to get my ideas across, meet with designers and create something special for fans.”

Lillard offered a sneak peek at the D Lillard 2 when he wore them during pregame warm-ups Dec. 1 before a home game against the Dallas Mavericks.

The shoe will be sold in retail stores for $105.

In addition to a new Lillard shoe, adidas has signed Nick Young who sported Yeezy 750 Boosts during a game over the weekend.

“I just signed with Adidas, welcome to the three stripes, Swaggy P,” he said to The Associated Press. “And I had to come in with some style and that’s basically what it’s all about.”

The move made waves in part because the street shoes are nearly impossible to get, and some on Twitter worried he might get hurt wearing them. But Young scored 13 points and said there was no need for concern.

Young might not be the best player, but he always manages to find the spotlight. Wearing shoes that are more fit for a runway than a basketball court could explain why.
