“We don’t need a high-rise apartment right in the middle of our neighborhood,” said Bob Larson, a neighbor of Millar’s who has helped form a group to oppose the proposal. “I know the people in our group are very upset about this whole expansion.”

Welcome to the latest chapter in Eugene’s quest to grow more compactly than it has in the past. The goal often proves difficult to achieve without generating backlash from residents in existing neighborhoods that would be changed by more building.
