The online taxi service has been running a high-profile promotional campaign in Salem for the past week.

And to continue with the free giveaways, a spokesman for Uber said the company will offer any user 10 free rides through Aug. 7 — the next two weeks — up to a value of $30 each.

Uber is not offering rides in Portland. Despite being the metropolitan center of the state, the city maintains strict laws protecting the taxi industry from new competition like Uber, a San Francisco-based company launched in 2009.
