The University of Oregon’s Regional Economic Indexes show the Oregon metro areas have fared well in recent months.

The indexes track a range of indicators — such as new jobs and home-building permits — to gauge the overall health of regional economies. Analysts combine three- to six-months’ worth of the data to temper any one-month spikes and hone in on recent trends. The latest statistics are from March.

The measures reveal that Portland and Eugene have expanded beyond their normal pace in recent months. Bend and Salem, meanwhile, are growing at near their recent average. Medford is better off than it had been, but continues to lag behind its Oregon metro peers.
