An economic update from the University of Oregon shows Portland grew ahead of average this spring, while Medford expanded significantly slower than average.

The report cites two key reasons why things didn’t appear to improve in June: the Rogue Valley’s widespread job cuts and its declining labor force.

In terms of job loss, Medford was not unique. Many other metro areas also lost jobs in June. Statewide, the cuts added up to 3,000, concentrated in the construction industry.
