Oregon entrepreneurs raised $112.57 million in venture capital for the first three quarters of the year, about 3% below the average over the past decade.

There’s nothing wrong with average, of course, except that Oregon startups seemed poised for a breakout year last winter when a trio of young tech companies (Janrain, Puppet Labs and Urban Airship) announced investments of more than $25 million apiece. They were some of the biggest investments in Oregon startups since the dot-com era, and coming in quick succession they seemed to suggest a banner year for venture funding the state.

Instead, the pace of investment has slowed considerably since. The NVCA reckons Oregon startups raised just $26.5 million last quarter. Dow Jones VentureSource totaled the number differently, pegging Oregon’s tally at $22 million.
