Rolf Prima Wheel Systems brought production of its bicycle wheel rims back to Eugene after outsourcing to Asia for more than a decade.

The wheel systems have been handmade in Eugene since the company opened its doors a little over a decade ago. But Rolf Prima, like other bicycle manufacturers, had the aluminum rims for the wheels made in China and Taiwan.

“Just about all aluminum bicycle rim manufacturing moved to Taiwan and China in the late ’80s and ’90s,” Rolf Prima owner Brian Roddy said. “When we started in 2002, there were no U.S.-based rim options to work with, so we designed our rims and had tools made for the custom designs and worked with the premier Taiwan rim vendors to have the rims made for us.”
