Orchard Supply pulled out of negotiations to come to Portland’s North Williams Avenue.
California-based Orchard opened its first Oregon locations in Beaverton and Tigard this year before filing for bankruptcy in June. North Carolina-based Lowe’s bought 72 of Orchard’s 91 Oregon and California stores for $205 million last month, including one in Beaverton and one in Tigard.
Boise neighbors said this summer they had mixed feelings about Orchard coming to North Williams Avenue. In a letter to the developers, they wrote: “Our primary concern is about the impact that Orchard or any other box-format retailer is likely to have to the street experience on Williams — creating a long deactivated stretch potentially with windows filled with stacked merchandise and/or corporate window signage. Additionally we are very concerned about the impact of substantial truck deliveries to a large retailer of this sort along North Williams.”
