Gas & Coke Building deemed top-five architectural loss by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The Portland Gas & Coke Building has been deemed a top-five architectural loss by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The nonprofit ranks “10 Preservation Wins and Losses” every year.
In December of 2013, Portland architecture blogger Brian Libby warned that NW Natural planned to tear down the Gas & Coke Building. Nearby residents and preservation advocates mounted a campaign to save it.
In April 2014 they succeeded in negotiating a deal: The utility agreed to save the building if community members were able to raise $2 million to preserve it.

That group was able to raise just $4,000.
