Portland startup Lytics raised $2.2 million in funding from two venture capital firms.

“Big data” is a hot topic in technology as companies work to process the huge volumes of information available online. Lytics aims to “help marketers collect and consolidate all the data about their customers,” said James McDermott, Lytics’ chief executive. Before Lytics, McDermott spent six years as a vice president at Webtrends, the large Portland online analytics firm.

Lytics is still in “private beta,” meaning it’s testing its technology with a small number of carefully selected customers. The company said it has about a dozen large clients, including two large retailers and a big cable TV network.
