T-Mobile added LTE wireless Internet service in the Portland area, and Sprint’s buildout is nearly complete.
LTE stands for “Long-Term Evolution.” It is a “4G” (fourth-generation) class of faster wireless connection prevalent among newer smartphones. Verizon added LTE in Portland in 2011, and AT&T upgraded its network a year ago, just ahead of the launch of the LTE-enabled iPhone 5.
T-Mobile announced earlier this month that its LTE service in now available in Portland and in surrounding communities, including Hillsboro, Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin, Gresham and Vancouver. T-Mobile said it plans to finish its nationwide LTE buildout by the end of this year.
