A family of four in the Portland area needs to make $69,000 a year to live modestly.

According to the Economic Policy Institute’s Family Budget Calculator, a family of two parents and two children must make $68,722 for a “secure yet modest living standard.”

The calculator estimated costs including housing, food, child care, health care and taxes. The study determined that a family of four needs at least twice the amount of the federal poverty line to live modestly.
