A bipartisan compromise to balance Oregon’s budget could come apart, Republicans say.
The only hitch: The House Democrats’ refusal to discuss cuts to the Public Employees Retirement System beyond the bill they’ve already introduced.
Sen. Larry George, R-Sherwood, said he has been involved with ongoing negotiations with Senate President Peter Courtney, D-Salem, Sen. Ginny Burdick, D-Tigard, and Sen. Brian Boquist, R-Dallas, along with staffers from Gov. John Kitzhaber’s office to come up with a budget plan that will work. However, he said politics inside the building could cause problems for the deal.
