That’s small relative to the twin, 330,000-square-foot data centers that Facebook built in Prineville. But it reflects the growing computing needs of a variety of companies.

Big, custom data centers choose rural areas because operating costs are lower there. Companies like ViaWest need to be close to the city, where prospective clients are found.
