The Bonneville Power Administration wants to develop more efficient ways to develop and deliver energy, and has $3.5 million available for new projects.

The BPA is seeking “research partners” who’ll offer thoughts on ways to enhance the electric industry. BPA hopes to develop technologies that expand and balance “variable energy resources.”

It’s a part of the group’s annual drive to update its research portfolio. In the past, BPA has funded ideas that developed a demand response market for Northwest commercial and industrial power users, reservoir modeling for hydropower production and a study on how an earthquake might affect substation gear.
