The Lane County Board of Commissioners voted to seek a deal to lease downtown land to Fifth Street Public Market owner Brian Obie as part of a major downtown redevelopment project.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am about this proposal,” Commissioner Jay Bozievich said. “I look at this as a first step toward redeveloping a big piece of Eugene, making that connection over to Fifth Street from downtown.”
The initial Obie/HACSA proposal calls for 170 market-rate apartments, 64 publicly subsidized apartments for low-income renters, a movie theater, grocery store, restaurants and retail space.
