The store’s opening will launch the development of the $50 million Fifth Street Public Market Expansion Project.

Obie Industries is entering into a 99-year lease with Lane County to build the expansion project on a county-owned 2-acre parcel one block west of the market. The site is north of East Sixth Avenue between Oak and Pearl streets.

As part of the overall redevelopment of that area, Housing and Community Services Agency of Lane County (HACSA), a county agency focused on operating low-income housing, plans to develop 60 to 65 housing units for local families with annual incomes of $25,000 to $30,000, said Steve Ochs, the agency’s real estate development director.
