The Oregon Government Ethics Commission will consider if Gov. Kitzhaber can accept speaking fees.

Before he was elected in 2010 to a third term, Kitzhaber, a former emergency room doctor, was developing a busy schedule as a public speaker, largely addressing health care organizations.

Kitzhaber stopped taking fees as a speaker once he became governor again, but is now considering accepting invitations to speak for a fee. On Dec. 10, he asked the ethics commission if he would risk breaking Oregon’s ethics rules by doing so.
