Oregon nonprofits benefited from a last-minute rush as donations came in before the end-of-year tax deduction deadline.

“We’re all hands on deck today,” said Meryl Lipman, spokeswoman for the Oregon Cultural Trust, which takes in 80 percent of its annual donations in the last three weeks of the year.

Under federal rules, donations must be made — or at least post-marked — by midnight Dec. 31 to count against 2012 tax bills. Oregon, like most states, has its own distinctive ways to prompt giving among taxpayers.
