Many bills died by the first major Oregon Legislature deadline this Monday.

Monday was the deadline for committees to post notices of public hearings on bills and resolutions.

As of Monday morning, notices had been posted for 127 of the 279 measures introduced for the 2012 session. That number excludes several bills already cleared by committees for votes of the House and Senate or passed by one or both chambers. It also excludes bills pending in the tax, budget and rules committees, which are not subject to the deadlines.

So slightly more than half the measures survived the first cut.
