Once permitting is complete, the LucidPipe Power System will be installed in a section of large-diameter, gravity-fed water pipeline that’s being installed as part of a system upgrade at Southeast Powell Boulevard and 147th Street in Portland. The system is expected to generate an average of 1,000 megawatt hours of energy per year from the water flowing through the pipe, enough electricity to power some 150 homes.
“Water and energy are closely linked; it takes a lot of electricity to deliver safe, clean drinking water,” said David Shaff, Portland Water Bureau administrator, in a press release. “The LucidPipe system provides a new way for us, as a water bureau, to generate electricity from our biggest asset and reduce the cost of delivery for our customers.”
