American Railcar Industries, whose main investor is Carl Icahn, wants to purchase rival Greenbrier Companies for $543 million.
This is not the first time Icahn has tried to buy Greenbrier, based in Lake Oswego, and merge it with American Railcar. In 2008, he purchased a stake in the company before selling off.
Greenbrier’s shares have jumped 36 percent since Icahn took a 9.99 percent stake in the company in November.
