The Portland metro area experienced steep job losses for the second straight month, losing 5,300 jobs in October.

Portland’s job growth had outperformed the rest of the state for most of the year. But that hasn’t been the case of late.

It could signal that hiring in other parts of the state is offsetting the cuts, although it’s important to note that the monthly data is volatile and subject to revision.

However, it’s a clear sign that hiring is slowing in the seven-county region includes Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Yamhill and Columbia counties in Oregon; and Skamania and Clark counties in Washington.
