Unemployed workers outnumber job openings 2-to-1 in the Portland area.

That ranks Portland in the middle of the pack among the 50 largest metro areas in the U.S. The metro’s rate matches Seattle’s but falls behind San Jose’s 1:1 ratio of openings to unemployed. The metro area’s jobless rate has hovered around 8 percent for most of the year. State officials estimate Portland gained 2,700 jobs in August.
