Cottage Grove-based Territorial Seed Co. is growing steadily as the weak economy has prompted more people to try growing and preserving their own food.

To streamline operations and meet growing demand, Territorial’s owners Tom and Julie Johns recently moved all of the company’s seed crops to the farm in London Springs. Territorial previously had raised some seed crops in Sutherlin. They also bought about 35 acres next to Territorial’s 44-acre London Springs farm, where they’ll increase seed production next year, Kirschenbaum said.

Territorial has a good reputation in the industry and was well positioned to benefit from recent national gardening trends, said Bruce Butter­field, research director of the National Gardening Association in Burlington, Vt.
