Most jobs added by Oregon state government since the recession have been temporary.

The state has added 39,458 jobs since the recession began in 2008, and of those, two-thirds were temporary, according to data provided by the Department of Administrative Services.

Between 2008 and September 2012, the state hired 24,991 workers who it did not intend to keep forever. Some are seasonal (think road construction), some are temporary and some are “limited duration.” Some workers under that title might be hired for a special project or have their positions funded by a grant.
